Company Spotlight:
Hereford Auto Parts was established in 1955, when Joe H. Hereford moved from Bessemer to Etowah County. Known to most as "Big Joe", he brought and sold automotive cores and scrap from his business in Reece City.
In 1971 he moved to the current location in Attalla. Throughout the 70's and 80's the business focused on auto cores and wholesale scrap metals. In the late 80's the business name was changed to Hereford Scrap Metals and was open to the public for the purchase of scrap. by 2009 the business had over 5000 registered customers.
In October of 2010 Big Joe had a serve stroke after surgery and passed away on November 29, 2010. His son's Joe W. and Tony L. Hereford assumed operations of the business. Before his death Big Joe had been steadily moving more toward commercial accounts, purchasing roll off containers and more trucks. Immediately after taking over the business Joe and Tony made commercial scrap accounts a major priority while still buying from the public.
Today Hereford Scrap Metals LLC has a full service fleet of tractor trailers and roll-off trucks serving small machine shops to fortune 500 companies. Hereford Scrap Metals LLC is the oldest family owned and operated scrap yard in Northeast Alabama. Joe W. Hereford manages the commercial accounts, Tony L Hereford oversees operations and their sister, Susan Hopper handles our compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
We appreciate all of our customer's both public and commercial for the past 68 years helping us carry on the business our late father lived for. In Alabama alone the recycling industry has a $2.7 billion annual impact and is responsible for over 12,000 jobs.
